How to Clean Patio Deck

Your Patio or Deck needs special attention, and the onus lies on you as the homeowner to take good care. After all, a clean and well-scrubbed deck and patio not only looks pleasing to the eye but will extend the life of the patio. However, many homeowners tend to damage their decks, docks, and patios because of casual attitude, ignoring those space or using the wrong products and methods for cleaning.

Here are some steps to start with.

Step 1- Sweep the area 

Catch hold of the broom and make sure that the surface is dry before you start sweeping. Clean out every piece of debris and make sure that the surface is clean.

Step 2- Deal with Stains

Step 3- Clean the area

Allow the solution to soak for about fifteen minutes.

Step 4- Scrub gently
Take a soft brush and clean the surface of the wood or patio. Just remember that the longer you allow to soak, the less you would have to scrub. Work in small areas and cover small portions at a time.

Step 5- Rinse the surface and apply sealer
Rinse the scrubbed surface with lots of water and allow the deck or patio to dry to dry completely. Once it is dry, apply a fresh coat of deck or dock sealer, you can easily get semi-transparent sealers in medium color pigments that are made from synthetic resins.

Some precautions

If you have plants around your patio or deck or grow vegetables, then avoid using Chlorine bleach, which can be harmful for the vegetation and the wooden surface. Do not opt for Pressure washers as they can damage the wood surfaces. The high-pressure water can readily erode the soft wood grains. It is best to work in the early part of the day or when it is shady to evaporation. Wear old and worn out clothes and rubber gloves when working or preparing the cleaning solution. Apply the cleaning solution to a very small part and wait for about ten minutes before blot-drying. If there is no color change, it means that the solution is safe to use. Resist using pressure even if you may have a washer to clean your house and get tempted to use it on the dock. The high pressure can hurt grout between stones and turn the softer wood to pulp. It is best to get a helper as the task of cleaning the patio or deck can be tiresome.
