Epoxy Concrete Repair
It has not clearly been established as yet as to which materials are the best suited for concrete repair. One thing is however sure that, if the concrete is need of structural repair, in order to make it as strong as the surrounding areas, then it will require an epoxy concrete application. An epoxy for crack repair is available in the market in different ranges of viscosity. This is because the width in the cracks could differ from place to place. The wider the crack, the thicker the requirement of the epoxy.
The advantage of epoxy repair over others is the high compression strength it can attain. At 1200 pounds per square inch, it is in excess of most concrete strengths. More ever, epoxies take their own time in curing, which actually turns out to be a bonus, as it allows the epoxy to seep into the tiniest of cracks. One epoxy injection is catered to repair any cracks in the concrete between 1/64” to ¼” in width. It is irrespective whether these cracks are in the walls, floors, slabs or beams. The ingredients have the capacity to flow in any type of crack, in any weather condition with the best results.
Epoxies have known to be effectively adopted for structural repair in a crack in the concrete. They in turn, not only reinforce the concrete crack, but makes it waterproof as well. Once the epoxy is sufficiently cured, it will bring the structure to its original strength in a short time. Because of their high tensile strength and bonding strength, epoxies are ideally suited for repairing cracks in concrete.
Before carrying out any repair work it is important to ensure that all the joints and cracks which need repair are dry at the time of epoxy application. If, by chance, any moisture is retained, it is likely to cause bubbling and blistering. In case this occurs, then the affected areas need to be removed and epoxy reapplied. Joints must also be free from any debris or dust to allow the epoxy to adhere.
Epoxy, in itself, has a wide range of applications. Because of the versatile nature of this chemical, their benefit in a range of industrial applications has not gone unnoticed. The concrete repair with epoxy usually involves in repairing the cracks in concrete floors. There are many advantages of using this material for repair work in concrete.
Temperature
Can be applied at below freezing temperatures
Fast curing
Takes not more than 15 minutes to set
Crack filling
Due to the low level of viscosity, it seeps into the tiniest of cracks and seals them.
Eliminates routing
No need for cold chisel or grinding work later. Minimum work of removing the loose surface debris is all that is needed.
Epoxy work has its limitations as well. To start with, at least 60 days curing is required for the concrete surface. It is also more expensive than urethanes. Epoxy does not adapt well to wet surfaces, as the bonding strength tends to get decreased by a long way. Having said that, the epoxy repair method is easy and economical, with no hassles.
