Patios and Decks on a Budget

Getting a patio deck does not mean you need to go overboard with your spending and break the bank. There are some clever ideas that can yield some incredible results and allow you to create a unique escape that is sure to leave your neighbors and guests wondering. You can certainly follow some great DIY ideas even if you are not an excellent carpenter or contractor. Well, building your very own on a budget need not be impossible, especially if are adventurous and have few helping hands. It can be a very rewarding experience to laze on a deck that has been built by you.

Plan The Deck

Take out your pencil and paper and start drawing the plan of your deck. It is a good idea to do one deck pier at a time and measure the distances constantly so as to get the perfect measures and avoid any wastage. In order to minimize sliding, just pace gravel at the bottom of each footing. Make sure that the wood does not touch the ground and use a long level on top of the joist beams to make the deck perfectly flat. Do not forget to spray some grass and weed killer or under the entire area. Waterproof the bottom of your deck.

Next, use a simple framing-wood which is inexpensive, but extremely strong.  Hold the boards carefully as you place them and be careful as some of them might be a little warped. Use a jigsaw to cut around drain pipes or fencing the edge. Once everything is screwed, make sure that they flush with the wood and are indented a bit. Now, it is time to stain and seal the deck. If using white or any lighter shade, apply three thin coats to get that right and bright color. Allow plenty of time between coats to dry and wait for a couple of days before you place anything heavy on the deck.

There are some more affordable ideas for your patio deck. For example, you can make use of Pallet Decks to create an artistic deck. Pallets are very inexpensive and can be easily found. A floating deck construction style can save a lot of money on lumber frames, and one can fill the left out panels with plants. Another good idea is to get an affordable daybed and create a nap-time getaway in your backyard. Add colorful outdoor pillows and cushions to complete the look. Patios and decks can go unconventional, and one can create a low-maintenance gravel patch with a mix if colored glass to add color and place some furniture. Add a canopy and get creative with new ideas for a low maintenance patio.

Now that your deck is ready for use think about how you can decorate it further with furniture, lighting, and pants. Place some plants in terra cotta pots and add plants in terra cotta pots to add a sophisticated look to space. A typical deck can cost anywhere between $6,000 and $8,000, but with a few clever improvising, you can bring the costs well below a thousand bucks!
