Pool Deck Repair
A pool deck is the main access point for your swimming pool. It is one area where you and your family can frolic around safely because of the roughened up surface which prevents one from slipping. If by any chance, the pool deck shows signs of wear and tear, cracks are bound to develop through which water can seep and cause extensive damage to the beam. This extra water can cause the soil to shift to such an alarming position that the pool walls can begin to sink.To keep this integral part of the pool structure intact, one must select such a product that can allow the pool deck to remain functional at all times.Irrespective of whether your pool deck surface is made of polymer resin, concrete or overlay, the material chosen should be adaptable to the surface.
Concrete pool decks suffer a lot of damage due to freezing temperatures, chemicals and exposure to the sun. The longer these flaws are left unattended, the faster they will spread to other areas of the pool and ultimately to the swimming pool itself. Using simple tools and techniques, one can easily fix these areas before they become potentially dangerous.
Pool Deck Repair
Repairing minor cracks
Rinse the deck thoroughly and remove any debris by using a scrubbing brush. If tapping indicates hollowness, then the overlay is loose. Chip away these portions and let the surface dry. Prepare a liquid bonder using deck repair powder and work this paste into the small cracks using your hands. Rub in an angular motion to fill the cracks from all corners. Wipe excess paste with a wet sponge. If the cracks are medium, use a trowel to fill them. Allow the repaired patch to dry according to the instructions on the package.
Repairing large cracks
Follow the same preliminary procedure of rinsing and cleaning of debris from the pool deck surface. Prepare the patch mix like before, but ensure that the consistency is thinner than the mixture used for small cracks.
Using a dry wall brush, dip it into the mixture and shake the excess product over the area which requires repair over the pool deck. Leave peaks on the deck and allow them to dry. Flatten these peaks with a damp trowel, by first making the edges smooth and then gradually doing the middle areas, till the repair work blends with the pool deck surface. Rinse away any excess mixture with a wet sponge. Use a hot air dryer to speed up the drying process. When you use the trowel for repair work always work from outside to the inner sides, as the repair mixture dries at the edges first. Apply a coat of enamel paint or a pool deck sealer to give the deck a good experience and keep the deck protected.
